Church history is short in Keflavík, a church was being built shortly before the turn of the century 1900, a timber church that was wrecked before it was finished. That event jeopardized the intention of the parishioners because they were in debt and it proved to be difficult to start a new church building carrying that debt. Ólafur Á. Olavsen one of the owners of the H.P. Duus shop in Keflavík made the generous offer to help pay the debt of the church and he also put substantial amount of money into the building fund for a new church with his sisters.
